The headliner is the fabric-covered panel on the ceiling of your vehicle. Fabric is glued to a thin layer of foam, and over the years heat, humidity and age cause that foam to break down. Once it does, the fabric separates and starts to droop. Stains from leaks and spills can also spoil the look of an otherwise good interior. Mark's Auto Trim installs and repairs car headliners for customers in Oshawa, Durham Region and the GTA.
Common headliner problems include:
Pins, tape and spray adhesive can hold a headliner up for a while, but they do not address the deteriorated foam underneath. In many cases the problem returns, and the sagging area may be bigger than before. A proper repair or replacement removes the headliner, strips off the old material and fits new fabric, then reinstalls the panel. That usually gives a cleaner, longer-lasting result. Our guide on what to look for in headliner repair explains the process in more detail.
If your headliner is stained, the cause may be a leak. We also repair sunroof leaks and sunroof mechanisms, so we can look at the source of the water as well as the damage it caused. It is best to fix the leak before installing new headliner material. For more on sunroofs, see our sunroof repair section.
If the headliner is worn out, other parts of the interior may be too. We can also help with seats, carpet and convertible tops, so you can plan a full interior refresh in one place.
Small problems can sometimes be repaired, but sagging is usually caused by the foam backing breaking down. In that case new fabric gives a longer-lasting result than pins or glue. We will tell you what we recommend once we see it.
Stains often come from leaks, for example around a sunroof or window seal, or from spills. If the leak is not fixed first, new fabric can be damaged the same way.
